Holiday Inn Express Hotels has decided to add Talladega to its chain of 72 hotels across the country and will open a Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites off of Haynes Street. I feel like its a step in the right direction, said David Owen, broker for Thackerson Realty in Talladega. Its nice to see someone have enough confidence in the area to invest what theyre going to be investing. Owen said Intercontinental Hotels Group Americas, the corporate owner of the Holiday Inn Hotel chain, came to him in June of last year and asked specifically for property located near the Haynes Street and Battle Street intersection. After some searching, Owen said IHG liked the two-acre property adjacent to Tractor Supply on Haynes Street, which was originally meant to house the new Huddle House restaurant....

Hotel Campaign a Work in Progress

Despite the bold predictions of City Hall officials, so far the dream of more affordable hotels in central Moscow is still just that -- a dream. One problem could be the lack of competition between hotel developers in Moscow -- some 30 hotels are owned by a company partly controlled by the Moscow city government, Interfax reported. In September, a city official said 100 new hotels would be built in Moscow's Central Administrative District by 2010. Seventy percent to 80 percent of these hotels would have three-star ratings. But in September 2003, the city said it would double the number of hotel rooms in Moscow to 130,000 by 2005. Mayor Yury Luzhkov earlier this year put the current number of hotel rooms at 70,000. That number has grown by just 1,200 in the past twelve months, according to Colliers International, partly because the city lost some 3,000 rooms with the demolition of the Hotel Rossiya near the Kremlin....

A sexy boutique hotel could replace the aging Holiday Inn at the Plaza-Kansas City just north of the Country Club Plaza, the Tax Increment Financing Commission of Kansas City heard on Wednesday. The project's developers confirmed they want to bring an aloft hotel, described as a "select service" brand affiliated with the high-style W Hotels, to their site at 45th and Main streets. Paul Novack of The John Buck Co. of Chicago said he's negotiating with Starwoods Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which introduced the aloft brand in September. But no commitments have been made, said Doug Stone, a lawyer with Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus PC who represents the developers. Marty Development LLC, which bought the property in January 2005, is made up of Kansas City real estate brokers Jeff Berg and David Hickman, hotel operator Doug Gamble, and Wichita developers Tom and Mike Boyd....

China's latest import: Big-name hotel brands
Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 7:05:53 AM by Blog57 Team
Twenty years ago, China basically had two styles of tourist lodging: high-end hotels aimed at pleasing business travelers and dignitaries, and hostels and cheap guesthouses where amenities were wildly unpredictable. Since the Chinese government generally didn't license hostels to accept foreigners, visiting tourists had little choice but to go upscale. "The reverse was true for Chinese travelers," few of whom could come close to affording a five-star hotel, says David Kong, president and CEO of Best Western International. Like just about everything else in China, this is changing fast. The population of 1.3 billion includes a growing middle class that has money to spend on vacations -- mostly within China, at least for now. Outsiders are also making their presence felt: The number of foreign tourists visiting China reached 20 million in 2005, and the country is on pace to become the world's largest tourist destination by 2020....
