GOING all out in full flower power, Sheraton Penang Hotel is vying for honours at the inter-hotel best decoration competition held in conjunction with Floral Fest 2007. Its general manager Ahmad Buk-hari Hamzah said: This is among our efforts to support the governments programmes. I understand that there are six hotels in Penang which are taking part in the competition. For a week starting on Friday, the hotels front service staff would be wearing floral-themed uniform. A stunning garden showcasing both artificial and fresh flowers is also featured at the lobby which is permeated with a lavender scent. Its sales and marketing director Damian Chua said the hotel was spending about RM15,000 for the project. A cocktail reception attended by assemblymen Cheang Chee Gooi and Looi Swee Cheang was held at the events launching on Friday night. Long-staying guests and travel trade representatives were also there. ....

Crestline Hotels & Resorts, Inc., the management company for the new Westin Virginia Beach Town Center hotel, today announced the appointment of Jon Sorenson as Director of Sales & Marketing for the 236 guestroom upscale hotel. The hotel, which is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2007, will be a focal point of the Town Center of Virginia Beach, a mixed-use "main street" style development located at the core of the city's Central Business District and the home of its cultural, business and retail activities. Developed by Armada-Hoffler, the Town Center spans over 17 city blocks and provides a mix of upscale retail, luxury residential, Class A offices, an array of restaurants, as well as the new Westin Hotel and Residences. The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center will share the 38 story high-rise tower with 119 luxury condominiums, whose owners will have access to many of the hotel's services and amenities....

Associates of Sheraton Utama Hotel in a group photo at the launching of its Safety Week. Sheraton Utama Hotel is currently holding its Safety Week until Nov 17. The Safety Week, headed by the hotel's Chief Engineer Mr Bayu Susila, began yesterday at the hotel itself. The event started with an aerobic workout at the hotel car park which was participated by Datin Hjh Zainah Bujang, the General Manager and members of the Executive Committee of Sheraton Utama. A talk on fire fighting was also held in the afternoon where personnel from the Fire Department conducted a talk on fire and their causes which was followed by a practical demonstration at the hotel's car park on techniques of extinguishing fire. The Safety Week is an annual event for all personnel of Sheraton Hotels worldwide....

Ten new hotels and six new restaurants have been added to the list of lodgings and eateries receiving AAA's highest rating, five diamonds. The additions will be listed in the automobile association's 2007 Tour Book guides and on AAA.com. They bring the total number of properties awarded five diamonds by AAA to 93 hotels and 58 restaurants. ....

As she stood on the podium of the splendid Ladi Kwali Hall of Abuja Sheraton Hotels that evening, Maria Mbadugha's eyes sparkled with unbelief. The appreciative audience clapped her every step to the stage. It must have surprised Maria that her legs did not give way under her weight. "All my life, I never thought I would get to this stage today", she stuttered in a smattering of English. It was overwhelming to her, the flight from Enugu to Abuja (her first), the splendour and opulence of Sheraton, the sumptuous lunch earlier in the day and of course the big hall draped in yellow and the audience with all eyes on her and the elegant woman with manicured fingers extending a cheque for N1 million to her. It had to be a dream. Or something with the colour of a dream. But it wasn't....

Kyo-ya Restaurant in Waikiki will close early next year and sell the restaurant building and part of the land under it, ending the landmark Japanese restaurant's 50-year run at the edge of Fort DeRussy. The 28,761-square-foot property on Kalakaua Avenue was listed on Friday for an undisclosed price. ....
